The Performing Arts department is housed in a purpose built studio space, equipped with advanced music systems, stage lighting and mirrored walls.

Key Stage 3 
Students are taught for one lesson per week.  In Year 7 and 8 students learn Drama/Dance skills/techniques through a wide range of exciting schemes of work. As students’ progress though Year 8, they explore a variety of Drama genres, theatre styles and staging, giving students a broad understanding of Performing Arts.

Drama provides a fantastic curriculum to ignite and engage students' creativity, passion and interests.

The course has been designed to be a practical, engaging and creative specification for students to study. It provides opportunities for students for students to understand and create as a practical art form in which ideas and meaning are communicated to an audience through informed artistic choices. 

It prepares students for further study of Drama or Performing Arts courses as well as developing transferable skills desired by further education, higher education and employers in all sectors of industry. The Drama course will help create independent learners, critical thinkers and effective decision makers ñ all personal attributes that will make our students stand out as they progress through their education and into employment.

Assessment overview
Devising Drama A01/02 60 marks. Non-exam assessment 30% of total GCSE.

Presenting and performing texts* A03/04 60 marks Non-exam assessment (Visiting examination) 30% of total GCSE

Drama: Performance and response* A05 80 marks. Exam assessment 1hour 30 minutes (Written paper). 40% of total GCSE

Outside of the Classroom 
We have a vibrant and dynamic department. The Performing Arts department runs regular visits, from theatre visits, activity weekends and tours abroad. These give students the opportunity to develop their knowledge outside of the classroom in a variety of exciting and stimulating ways, broadening their learning of the Performing Arts Industry and a performer's world.
